 
Baltimore’s Inner Harbor has been one of the United States major seaports since the 1700’s. Developed in the early 17th century, the colorful and diverse city played a major role in molding the nation’s history, including the American Revolution. The city boasts numerous historic sites such as Fort McHenry, where troops protected the city’s cherished harbor in the War of 1812, the USS Constellation and the first monument to the nation’s first president honoring George Washington.
In the 1970’s Baltimore’s Inner Harbor launched a successful redevelopment and today is a leader in urban renewal and has defined itself as a major American success story. This remarkable transformation of the Inner Harbor has led it to be one of the most photographed and visited areas of the city. The harbor is considered the city’s greatest asset and is now surrounded by hotels, office buildings and entertainment facilities from museums to sports parks. The city of Baltimore has transformed into a modern service economy, led by high-tech, biotech, medicine and tourism.
